Never Go Fishing

Never go fishing, at least with young people.

Our nephew, Patrick, was visiting the last few days. He left for Hilton Head this morning, for his planned golf weekend with his friends. We loved that he stopped by for a few days with us!

Fresh off my feel-good "someone noticed" experience yesterday, I made the mistake of fishing for another compliment.

I should have known better.

So, yesterday, I ask Patrick (22) if he thinks I look like I lost any weight. I didn't tell him I've been dieting for 49 days.

"Nope," he said rather matter-of-factly, "but wearing darker pants may help."

Gee. Thanks.

  1. OWCH! At 22 he should know better. I'm willing to bet that he's single, right? LOL!

  2. Guys are clueless - especially young ones.
    You're doing terrific!

  3. "Ouch" is right, Christine! LOL You are right, Patrick IS single.

Mary, isn't that the truth? (And thanks for your kind words!)

Patrick is a great kid and we love him dearly. I figure it was God's way of knocking the momentary vanity right out of me. I've been humbled (again). LOL Lesson learned, lesson learned!

  4. Never ask a 22 year old guy about weight loss. Trust me, they are clueless and tactless. My own son is still only alive because I love him. ;) lolol

  5. Hi Ann,
I just presented you with an award! Come pick it up at my blog if ya want! :)

  6. LOL...that is hysterical. Sounds like you smiled after. Just tell the kid that he's got another 10-15 years before it all starts hitting him in the belly.

  7. my neighbor likes to do this to me, ask me if she looks like she has lost weight and I always say yes because I assume its because she HAS lost weight. But when I ask the same thing she says "no." Just like that. But its because she is a little bit slow and I understand that. So, a slow woman, actually is equal to a young, normal man. They may become equal to a young normal woman at about age 45. They never do make it to normal with women their age. Its just a fact. :-P

  8. Oh the stinker!!! You just keep pushing through!!!! Next time he will notice!!!

  9. Haha: "Wearing darker pants may help." I have a feeling your nephew isn't overweight! This story put a smile on my face. :)

You're doing great on your journey, Ann!

  10. Thanks for all the kind words! Say, I discovered this week that I missed two people's blogs. I thought I was following them, but I somehow missed them. If I am not a follower - let me know (on the most current posting/commentary). I like to keep up with everyone! (Nancy, I KNOW I follow you, but nothing has come up in a while. Not posting?) xx
