Holiday Wishes

I forgot to note that I have passed the halfway mark in the 60-lb weight loss challenge.  This is a wonderful milestone.  The blue box (right sidebar) indicates how many days are left in the 365 day challenge.

Dad had his second-to-last cancer treatment yesterday.  It was a very long day.  After the last treatment, we just wait and pray.

Dad is pretty weak/tired today.  He is a very ill fellow.  Therefore, I won't be able to spend any time online the remainder of this week, but wanted to say I will post measurement updates next week.  I haven't forgotten, just had no time - between hospital and company.  We've shifted gears and are going out to eat this year - huge departure for us.

Dad hasn't done as well this go-around, so I can't be home to cook this year.  I'm spending most of my days at the hospital.  But, as far as Thanksgiving is concerned, I'll load up on water and veggies - enjoy a little turkey and stuffing - skip dessert ... it is what has to be done when dieting, right?  It is all about priorities.  Dad and diet ... how 'bout that?

:D

Happy Thanksgiving to all !!  I look forward to catching up on everyone's blogs - and to reading all those SUCCESS STORIES of Thanksgiving Day.  It is a meal.  The loved ones, with whom we spend our day of thanksgiving, really matter.

Enjoy yourselves, be thankful for the many blessings we enjoy, and luxuriate in our healthy (sane) eating!!

  1. Ann - I get to be the first to say Congrats!
    Love it!

And I love that you are caring so much for your dear father.
    Get your rest, dear.
Don't give ALL of yourself away to others.
Family care-givers tend to get WAY overwhelmed.
They forget to take care of themselves!

  2. Ann, congrats on hitting the half-way mark! You're doing so great!
I know how hard it is, physically and emotionally, to care for a relative with cancer. I'll be thinking of you.
Have a blessed Thanksgiving and enjoy every minute you have with your Dad.

  3. Indeed it is our family that matters. I hope your Dad feels better soon. At least with it being the last treatment he gets a physical break, but the mental kicks in as it is scary to think you aren't fighting it right then off the meds. The body needs time to respond. I will keep my fingers crossed for you. I'm glad to hear you'll be eating out and not putting you or your family through the stress of cooking a big meal. It doesn't matter what you are eating it is the company that counts. Enjoy our holiday.

  4. Ann, I am so proud of all you've accomplished in these few months. Your ever positive attitude is an encouragement to all of us.

I will remember you frequently during the next few days as you quietly sit with your dad. My memories of sitting by a hospital bed are only three months in the past and still very fresh, so I can truly empathize with your emotions. Please remember us as we spend our first Thanksgiving without the physical presence of my FIL. You were so kind with your words during his illness - I hope I can be the same to you!!

  6. Congrats on your milestone! Just enjoy being with your family and taking care of your father. It is a special time for him and you, and try to be with him as much as possible. I think it was wise to decide to let someone else do the cooking and cleanuup for Thanksgiving just this one time. Please take care of yourself during the next few days, Ann.
